I’ve been down this corridor before, I know I have. ”you can check out any time you like but you can never leave.” Those words are really haunting me now.

Hey! Is there anyone there? Hello?

I said ”Hey”! READER!!! Yes, you! Isn’t anyone reading this? You know the way, surely! I know you know which way to go!

Oh, so you think you can just silently read, and leave me in my predicament?  Well, thank you very much, reader. I hope you’re satisfied, knowing where you left me, with no way out!

Except – beware – one day it could be YOU!

  1. “Welcome to the Hotel California…” :-D I’d love to read another chapter of this story! Nice job Pirate! :-)

  2. So everybody’s jumping the gun and posting well before Friday? I just posted mine today. Oh, well. Enjoyed your take but a bit weird being yelled at from my computer screen. By a pirate. I’m sure it will be a very informative session next week with my shrink.

  3. Ha pirate, we had a very similar take on this prompt. Your reference to hotel California brilliant. To get out just take a left and them a right. Then through the door, there you will find the reception, and they let you out as you settle the bill.

  4. Good story. Kind of scary!

  5. wait here, I’ll get the nurse and she’ll give you something to make you feel happy again, then we can remove the jacket.

  6. Spooky. Like it.

  7. Dear Pirate,
I’ve never been addressed by a character in a blog before. I slouched down and covered the webcam, just in case. I’m afraid I’m just here to read and can’t be of much use, but if I ever find myself in a similar predicament, let’s meet. Say, in the hallway?

  8. Speaking of pressure…My first view of the photo was this morning and there are already 30 posted in that Inlinkz thingy? What’s the rush, guys?

  9. I got the song “Hey You” in my head now… It’s going to stay for the rest of the day I am sure!
Have to look for my earphones.

    Nice work!

  10. Mr. Pirate,
Ye can escape. Here’s how. Just click your heels together twice and say, “There’s no place like home.” Be sure you’re wearing ruby slippers. Liked the Hotel California reference and the interactive quality of the story. Now, back to sitting here just reading! Ron

    • It worked! Then I opened the front door and found myself back in a corridor…so instead will open the laptop and spirit myself away through the other stories…

  11. Oh, Pirate…you got me! I would get you out of there if I could. But, it sounds to me that, you know, like the song says, “You can never leave.” That would be really sad. Great job on this!

  12. What a mean person to leave you there without a way out ;(

  13. And the music played on.

    Thanks for the journey, Pirate.

  14. I like the appeal to the reader, pirate. It looked like a scary place to me too.

  15. The horror of writing something that nothing responds to. Fortunately not the case here, nor could I imagine it ever being so. Nicely done!

  16. Does your phone not have GPS? No?
Ok, go through any door, find a window and break out.

    You’re welcome.

    Nice piece :-)

  17. What happened to the third wall in that reflection?

    • Ha ha! Nice try! I’m afraid I’l have to leave it to the person who took the photo to answer, otherwise I’ll spend a long time looking..

  18. Dear Pirate Person Persona,

I did the opposite. No ‘like’ click, but left a comment. You may exit through the last door on the left. It’s just a little farther along.

    Aloha,

    Doug

The photo looks like hospital to me. Not nice. I do like your words though. I was thinking of writing a piece asking if there was anybody out there today. Blogging is a strange thing. You create a piece, post it and then all these people you don’t know click ‘like’ but never say anything. Good on you for pointing that out and getting some responses.

    • I like your insight very much – yes, I thought I’d play around a little bit. I think your introspective piece sounds like it would be good – raw.

  20. Perfect balance of frustration, humor and even writing a story without ever writing one. :-) Takes a special person and you’re it!!

Yar, I’m just making a pot of tea at this very moment (it’s steeping). Come by for a cuppa.

  21. That corridor is too well lit for my liking. This is one READER who’s feeling decidedly jittered. I sense an unhinged laugh lurking a few paces ahead of those 100 words ;-)

    • You do have very strong perception, you really do – either through the psychology or something else. Well said!

      • Sometimes too strong a perception can be both alarming and exhausting. There are some people I have to keep my distance from, as stepping too close to their auras is like stepping into a deep freeze. Others have such fractured auras that I have to guard against soaking up their darkness as if I’m a piece of blotting paper and they’re some kind of toxic ink.
My psychology training has helped me identify these feelings and be mindful of their effect upon me.

  22. holy crap. people are writing already? i better get moving. what day is it?

  23. Goodness, one can’t very well NOT respond to this piece — not without feeling a load of guilt! :) It might not have been your intent, but to me, you have perfectly described the predicament of putting yourself out there in writing and waiting, waiting, waiting… wondering if anyone at all is reading what you wrote and what they thought of it. That’s a special brand of horror, in its own unnerving way.

    • Thank you very much for that lovely comment – and great intro to comment too! The intent..oh yes..it was there!
Yes, that special brand of horror, most often swept under the carpet…not acknowledged with ease..

  24. Love the Hotel California reference. Nice stream of cosciousness piece. Felt the desplation and frustration. Thanks for your kind comments on mine.
